What hail can do to a vehicle
A single storm can leave dozens or hundreds of dents across a vehicle. The pattern and severity vary with every storm and every vehicle.
Roof
The largest flat expanse often takes the heaviest denting.
Hood
Forward-facing panels catch repeated strikes during a storm.
Trunk
Rear panels can show dense, evenly spaced dimples.
Body panels
Doors, fenders, and quarter panels can all be affected.
Not every panel or every vehicle is affected the same way. Damage depends on hail size, wind direction, vehicle angle, and panel material — which is why each vehicle is assessed individually.
Every vehicle is assessed individually
Hail damage isn't one-size-fits-all. A professional assessment considers several factors to determine the appropriate repair approach and an honest estimate.
- Number of dents across the vehicle
- Dent size and severity
- Location of the damage
- Panel accessibility from behind
- Paint condition over the dents
- Overall extent of the damage
The relationship between PDR and hail
Paintless Dent Repair is the technique most commonly associated with appropriate hail-dent repair, because it can address many dents while preserving the existing painted finish. When the damage allows, PDR is the preferred approach.
Not every hail-damaged vehicle qualifies for PDR, however. Suitability depends on the individual damage, and an honest assessment determines whether PDR is the right approach for your vehicle.
Not every dent can be massaged out
Severe damage or compromised paint may require a different repair approach. Dents where the clear coat has cracked, the metal has stretched sharply, or the paint has broken through may not be suitable for PDR.
In those cases, conventional bodywork and paintwork may be recommended. The goal is an honest assessment of what your specific damage requires.
What to do after a hailstorm
A few simple, non-alarmist steps help you document the damage and get a professional assessment.
- 01
Inspect your vehicle
Walk around the vehicle in good lighting and look for dents across the roof, hood, trunk, and body panels.
- 02
Photograph visible damage
Take clear photos of the dented panels from several angles. Good lighting helps show the extent of the damage.
- 03
Get a professional assessment
An in-person inspection or detailed photo review helps determine the appropriate repair approach and an honest estimate.
- 04
Don't assume all dents are identical
Small dents can vary in depth, location, and paint condition — each affects whether PDR is appropriate.
ALL-IN Auto Revival is not affiliated with any insurance company. If you are filing a claim, your insurer's process and your coverage determine what applies. Deductible assistance applies on qualifying claims.
Documented PDR training behind the work
